Rake and Bake 2014

rake & bake

Early Saturday morning, Fr. Larry and over 75 members of the St.Francis community met up this past Saturday for the HDHM (Handy Dandy Handyman Ministry) 16th annual Rake and Bake! Not only were we the largest group represented this past weekend, but Pete also shared that we were the largest single group ever recorded at any of the 16 events! A big ‚ÄúThank You, St. Francis!” for supporting this wonderful day of outreach.

For those unfamiliar with the rake and bake, we gather together in teams and descend upon home owners who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to rake their yards in preparation for winter. We came equipped with rakes, tarps, backpack blowers, energy and good will. The home owners, overjoyed and touched by the helping hands and loving hearts, worked the baking end of this and provide us with the many wonderful treats enjoyed during the very ample lunch which was laid out for us upon our return.

We arrived looking like the community we are: individuals, couples, families, friends, teens, the young, and the young at heart! Several parishioners have been with St. Francis for more years than they can count, and two registered after having just moved into town (great to meet you Fritz and Barbara). Ministry members and non ministry members alike, all gathered together for one purpose, to reach out to others in need this past weekend.

There was a nip in the air, but the sun was shining, which helped to melt the remaining snow. The fellowship and energy involved in reaching out to others kept us all warm. The sense of community and fellowship before, during, and after the raking was amazing! It was a fantastic day for all. In total, 65 houses were completed by noon by the 900+ volunteers.

Pete Brady sends his thanks and appreciation to all who were able to come this year.

Thank you again, St. Francis, for your giving hearts.
